History

United by taste: wine shop and luxury hotel – two companies with a shared history.

1903

Herrmann Volkhardt, who was known for its wine presents, establishes the wine wholesaler Volkhardt in the heart of Munich, based in the famous Hotel Bayerischer Hof.

1903 - 1971

The wine wholesaler was based in what is now Trader Vics. A specially installed filling machine is set up in order to be able to bottle wines from prominent European vintners and producers directly from the barrel. During this time, the company becomes one of the biggest suppliers of wine to the catering business in Munich and the Bavarian Oberland.

1971

For the duration of the extensive building work completed at the hotel in time for the 1972 Olympics, the wine wholesaler moved from the centre of Munich to Munich-Pasing. In its current location on an island in the river through Pasing, Volkhardts Wein is surely unique in Munich in terms of location.

2008

To complement our wholesale business, the Volkhardts Vinothek is also established. Shortly after opening, the shop concept wins the highly coveted red dot design award. In the meantime, Volkhardts Wein has become a fixed feature in the Munich wine retail business.

2009 - today

Despite its location in Munich-Pasing, Volkhardts Wein is still very closely linked to the Hotel Bayerischer Hof. All the wines for festive banquets and events such as the annual Munich Security Conference and the German Film Ball are sourced from Volkhardts Wein and stored in Pasing until they are needed. The gourmet restaurant Atelier, which holds 3 Michelin stars, also sources its wines from Volkhardts. Today Volkhardts Wein private clients can expect to find a comprehensive range and receive expert, one-to-one advice. We are a reliable, service-oriented and flexible partner for the hotel as well as retail and wholesale business.
